A bundle builder page lets shoppers pick 3, 5, or 7 products from your catalog and package them into a single gift set at a small discount. It is one of the highest-converting pages you can add to a store, and you do not need a developer or a paid app to set it up.

Here is how to build one from scratch using free tools you already have.

What You Need

  • A Shopify store (or any platform that supports custom pages and product collections)
  • A collection of 15 to 30 products that make sense together (candles, skincare, snacks, stationery, accessories)
  • 30 minutes

Step 1: Create a “Bundle Eligible” Collection

Go to your product admin and create a new collection called “Bundle Builder.” Add the products you want customers to choose from. Keep it to 15 to 30 products. Too many options and people freeze. Too few and the bundle feels limited.

Tag each product in this collection with “bundle-eligible” so you can filter it later if you expand to other collections.

Step 2: Set Your Bundle Tiers

Decide on 2 or 3 bundle sizes. The most common pattern is:

  • Pick 3 for $45 (save 10%)
  • Pick 5 for $70 (save 15%)
  • Pick 7 for $95 (save 20%)

The discount does not need to be deep. The appeal is the experience of choosing, not the savings. A 10% discount is enough to make the bundle feel smarter than buying items individually.

Step 3: Build the Page

Create a new page in your store admin called “Build Your Gift Set” or “Create Your Bundle.”

At the top of the page, add a headline and a short explainer:

“Pick 3, 5, or 7 items from our collection and we will package them into a gift set. The more you pick, the more you save.”

Below that, add a grid of products from your Bundle Eligible collection. In Shopify, you can do this by inserting a product grid section and filtering it by the “bundle-eligible” tag.

If your theme does not support product grids on pages, use a page builder app. Most Shopify themes have a free page builder included.

Step 4: Add the Selection Logic

This is the part that feels technical but is not. You have two options:

Option A: Use a free bundle app. Search the Shopify App Store for “bundle builder” and filter by “Free.” Several free apps let customers select products and auto-apply the discount at checkout. Install one, connect your Bundle Eligible collection, and set your tier pricing.

Option B: Use cart discounts. If you do not want to install an app, set up an automatic discount in your Shopify admin. Create a discount that applies when the cart contains 3 items from the Bundle Eligible collection. Repeat for 5 and 7 items. Shopify’s native discount engine handles this without code.

The limitation of Option B is that customers have to add items to their cart one by one and the discount appears at checkout. It works, but it is less elegant than a dedicated bundle builder interface.

Step 5: Add Visual Cues

On the page, add a progress bar or counter that shows how many items the customer has selected. If you are using a bundle app, this is built in. If you are using Option B, add a simple text reminder above the product grid:

“Add 3 items to your cart for 10% off. Add 5 for 15% off. Add 7 for 20% off.”

This is not fancy, but it works. Customers read it, understand the deal, and start adding.

Step 6: Add a Gift Message Field

Bundle builders convert better when there is a gift element. Add a text field on the page (or in the cart) where customers can type a short gift message. Most themes have a “cart notes” field built in. Rename it to “Gift Message (optional)” and you are done.

If you want to go further, add a gift wrap option as a $3 product that gets added to the cart automatically when the customer checks a box.

Step 7: Set Up the Post-Purchase Experience

After the order comes in, the bundle gets packed like any other multi-item order. The difference is presentation. Use a slightly larger box, add tissue paper between items, and include the gift message on a printed card.

This is not about the page. It is about making the bundle feel like a product, not a shipment of separate items.

What to Avoid

  • Do not offer more than 3 bundle tiers. Two is fine. Three is the max. More than that and the page becomes a pricing table instead of a shopping experience.
  • Do not mix categories that do not make sense together. If you sell candles and phone cases, do not put them in the same bundle builder. Create separate builders for separate product lines.
  • Do not hide the discount. Show it on the page, show it in the cart, show it at checkout. Customers need to see the saving at every step.
  • Do not make the page longer than 2 screens. A grid of 15 to 30 products fits in one screen on desktop and two on mobile. If you have more products, use a filter bar at the top so customers can narrow by category.

How to Measure If It Is Working

Track these three numbers for the first 30 days:

  1. Page views. If nobody is visiting the page, it is not linked prominently enough. Add it to your main navigation under “Gift Sets” or “Build Your Own.”
  2. Add-to-cart rate from the page. If people visit but do not add items, the product grid is either too small, too cluttered, or the products do not feel like they belong together.
  3. Average order value from bundle orders vs regular orders. If bundle AOV is not at least 20% higher than your store average, the tiers need adjusting. Either lower the item count or increase the discount.

A bundle builder page is not a set-and-forget feature. Check the numbers after 30 days, swap out products that are never selected, and test a new tier if the current ones are not converting.
