You pulled up your analytics. Your product page has visitors. Real ones. But the add-to-cart rate is sitting at 0.3% and you’re starting to wonder if your product photos are cursed.

They’re not cursed. Your product page just has conversion killers you can fix in under an hour.

Step 1: Check your first fold

Pull up your product page on your phone. What do you see without scrolling?

That’s your first fold, and it needs three things:

– A clear product image (white background, no lifestyle shot here)

– The price (not buried under a sale badge)

– An add-to-cart button that’s visible without scrolling

If any of these are missing or below the fold, move them up. On Shopify, go to your theme editor and reorder your product page sections.

Step 2: Kill the generic descriptions

“Our premium cotton blend offers superior comfort and style” means nothing. Rewrite your description to answer the questions a customer would actually ask:

– What does it feel like?

– How does it fit? (Be specific: “relaxed through the hip, tapered at the ankle”)

– What’s it made of and where?

– How do I care for it?

Write like you’re texting a friend who asked about the product. Three short paragraphs beat one corporate block every time.

Step 3: Add social proof above the fold

Move your star rating and review count next to the price. Not at the bottom of the page. Not in a tab. Right next to the price where people make the decision.

If you have fewer than five reviews, add a “Verified Purchase” badge to each one. If you have zero reviews, send your first ten customers a personal email asking for honest feedback and offer a small discount on their next order.

Step 4: Fix your image gallery order

Your first image should always be a clean product shot on white. The second image should show the product in use or on a person. The third should be a detail shot (texture, stitching, close-up). Everything else comes after.

Remove any image that doesn’t help someone decide to buy. If you have eight nearly identical angles, pick the best two and delete the rest. Choice paralysis kills conversions.

Step 5: Make the buy button impossible to miss

Your add-to-cart button should be:

– A contrasting colour (if your brand is green, make the button black or a strong accent colour)

– Full width on mobile

– Sticky on mobile (stays visible as people scroll)

Most Shopify themes support a sticky add-to-cart. Turn it on in your theme settings.

Quick checklist

– [ ] Product image, price, and buy button visible without scrolling on mobile

– [ ] Description rewritten in plain language

– [ ] Star rating next to the price

– [ ] First three images tell the full story

– [ ] Buy button is high contrast and sticky on mobile

Do all five of these and check your analytics again in a week. You’ll see the difference.
