The actual image generation capability now lives in ChatGPT Images, and it runs on a newer model.<\/p>\n The DALL-E GPT was one of the original pre-built assistants in the GPT store. It was the reason a lot of people still said “DALL-E” when they meant ChatGPT’s image feature. Most users migrated to ChatGPT Images months ago without noticing.<\/p>\n What goes: the old DALL-E GPT conversation surface.<\/p>\n What stays: ChatGPT Images, which runs on OpenAI’s gpt-image models (introduced November 2025). Available on every tier including free.<\/p>\n What is unclear: whether images generated through the old DALL-E GPT remain accessible after today. OpenAI has not explicitly said they will delete them, but they also have not said they will keep them. The only safe move is downloading everything you want to keep.<\/p>\n ChatGPT Images runs on OpenAI’s newer gpt-image models. It is available on all tiers including free accounts. The variant with visible reasoning steps (called Images with thinking) is limited to Plus, Pro, and Business, with Enterprise and Edu coming later.<\/p>\n For most people, the practical difference is that images now live in a dedicated gallery rather than scattered through conversations.
