Reframe free shipping thresholds as a reward, not a penalty<\/h2>\n<p>If you offer free shipping over a threshold, the way you frame it changes how customers feel about it.<\/p>\n<p>The penalty frame sounds like:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>You need to spend $75 to unlock free shipping.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>The reward frame sounds like:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>You are $12 away from free shipping. Different feeling.<\/p>\n<p>The reward frame does two things:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>It makes the threshold feel achievable, not punitive<\/li>\n<li>It gives the customer a reason to add one more item<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Put this message on the cart page, just below the subtotal. It is one of the most effective upsell prompts you can write.<\/p>\n<p>If you are close to the threshold, show the exact amount remaining. If you are far away, do not show it at all. A customer who is $60 away from free shipping will not add $60 worth of products. They will just feel annoyed.<\/p>\n<h2>Bonus: Make your shipping policy readable<\/h2>\n<p>Your shipping policy page should not be a wall of text. Most customers never read it. The ones who do are usually already anxious.<\/p>\n<p>Structure it like this:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>How long orders take to pack<\/li>\n<li>How long shipping takes by region<\/li>\n<li>How costs are calculated<\/li>\n<li>What happens if the order is delayed<\/li>\n<li>How to track an order<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Five short sections. No legal language. It is about uncertainty. Customers will accept $14 shipping if they knew it was coming.
